George Tootell married Sarah Coombe in 1834 and they produced 8 children from 1835 to 1851.

I am grateful to a descendant of George for drawing my attention to the fact that in 1853, because George had deserted his family, Sarah and six of her children were removed back to St Thomas, Exeter by the Kensington parish overseers. Further details are available online at National Archives. The whereabouts of George were unknown. I have not been able to find any trace of Sarah subsequent to this event.

George married Louisa Elizabeth Vaughan at Sevenoaks, presumably bigamously, in 1857. Although there is a chance that this could be a different George this seems most unlikely as George's father was recorded as John at the marriage and his occupation at subsequent baptisms was shown as tailor which tallies. There is a discrepancy in that in the 1861 Census he is shown as being aged 44 rather than about 54 and as being born in London. He may have adjusted his age because he was uncomfortable about the true age difference (his wife being 24) and may have changed his birthplace to avoid being traced. His correct age was given at death.

George then fathered another 8 children.

I have not found any trace of Louisa prior to this marriage.
