PAWNBROKERS
The people listed below were all pawnbrokers and it is probably through this trade that the various families got to know each other.
- John Cordy [dates unknown, father of John (1720-1800), Charles (c1723-1810), Elizabeth (c1725-1777) & Hannah (c1736-?) among others]
- William Cordy (1739-1809)
- John Cordy Baxter (c1769-1859)
- Robert Minns (c1748-1791)
- Nicholas Morritt (c1771-1834)
- James Aldous (husband of Elizabeth Ann Basey)
- James Aldous (1783-?), son of the above
- John Crouch (c1767-1812)
- Elizabeth Crouch née Folkard (c1778-1814), wife of the above
- Daniel Folkard (c1769-c1833), half-brother of Elizabeth above
- John Cope Folkard (1797-?), son of Daniel
- William Folkard (c1784-1830), brother of Elizabeth above
The will of John Cordy (1720-1800) also mentions a William Crouch, pawnbroker, but I have not established whether or not it is the William Crouch baptised at Worlingworth in 1760.
