CHARLES GIBBS MAPLE
Charles Gibbs Maple (1861-1929) married Emily Lushey (1863-c1933) in 1884 and had three children.
When he was in the building trade his nephew, Harry Archibald Maple (1873-1917), worked for him.
It is said that Emily liked money (or things) and didn't stint herself if she wanted something. Consequently she had first call on any money available and there were numerous occasions when Harry didn't get paid.   When Harry’s first child was born, Emily came round with an expensive shawl or christening robe but they weren't paid any wages that week!   This is the reason that Harry set up independently of Charles and told his wife that the wages had to be paid first and they would only have what was left.
