CHARLES BRACEY (c1796-1849)
Charles Bracey died in early 1849 and the death certificate records his age as 52 years which makes his birth 1796/7. His age in the 1841 Census is shown as 45 which corresponds to 1791- 1796.
I have not found any plausible baptisms in the London area. However there are other Bracey activities in St Pancras where Charles was married.
- William Jay Bracey was baptised in 1800. His parents were Jay & Mary Susanna. The forename Jay crops up in a number of Norfolk Bracey families.
- William Bracey was baptised in 1805. His parents were John & Mary Engrin but I haven't been able to trace anything further about this couple.
Looking at the Norfolk connection there was the baptism of a Charles Bracey at Norton Subcourse in January 1794 but this is likely to be the Charles Bracey that married at nearby Aldeby in 1815.
There is also the baptism of a Charles Bracey at Berkhampstead in 1793 but I have found no other evidence to suppose that this is the right Charles Bracey.
I think that the most likely situation is that Charles was a brother of William Jay Bracey (see above) and that either he was never baptised or his baptism has missed getting on to the main genealogy websites. It would appear that William had a brother baptised in Startforth, Yorkshire so their father may have had to move round a lot for his job.
