HENRY HAM & FAMILY

Henry Ham married Sarah Bird in 1824 and they had children as follows:

  • Henry William, born 1825
  • Henry, born 1828
  • Sarah, born 1831
  • Elizabeth, born 1832
  • Maria, born 1834
  • Ann, born about 1835
  • William, born 1837

In the 1841 Census, the family were living in Gun Street, Southwark. Henry senior is shown as a glass cutter.

Within a few years the family had been split up and it is thought that Henry senior had died so bringing hardship to the rest of his family although no suitable death/burial entries have been found.

In the 1851 Census:

  • Sarah senior had remarried and was living in Clerkenwell.
  • Henry William presumably died before 1828.
  • Henry junior was a French polisher but shown as a pauper living in the Newington workhouse.
  • Sarah junior appears to have been a servant with the Barker family living in the Soho area.
  • Elizabeth could be the person of that name who was house servant to two retired people in Clerkenwell but the age is slightly understated if so.
  • Maria had died in 1848. Her abode was given as Workhouse.
  • Ann – probably the Ann from the Workhouse who died in 1848 but if so her age was understated somewhat.
  • William died 1840.
