There are numerous baptisms (and spellings!) of John Laysol in Essex but none of the ones I have found are particularly near the Thorrington/Brightlingsea area.

One family tree on Ancestry has him baptised at Bures in Suffolk which at first sight seems unlikely (with so many Layzells in Essex) but his daughter Jemima married at Bures so perhaps he really did come from there. However, it appears that the John Layzel baptised at Bures was buried there in 1794.
