There are traces of deafness in the Layzell family.
  •  Henrietta Layzell (1859-1879) is shown in the 1871 Census as being deaf from birth (and is shown as Hetty rather than Henrietta).
  •  Janet Layzell (1865-1936) is shown in the 1901 Census as having been death from childhood.
  Each of these girls was one of a pair of twins.
  •  Percy Layzell (1906-1972) wore deaf aids.
  •  Muriel Ida Keyte, née Maple, (1906-1995) daughter of Florence Maple (née Layzell) suffered from tinnitus in her last few years.
  •  Her brother, Cyril Maple (1903-1982), was deaf in one ear for most of his life (but not from birth) but wore a deaf aid in his other ear in his last few years following a bad cold.
