Whitworth Filby has been shown as the son of Samuel Filby (born about 1736) and Elizabeth Whitworth (c1743-1786) although I have found no evidence to support this. However, with a first name of Whitworth it seems extremely likely that this is the case.
I have also shown Samuel Filby (born about 1779) as another son of Samuel and Elizabeth but again I have no evidence to support this. Both Whitworth and Samuel brought up their families in Purleigh, Essex but I have found no trace of any Filby in Purleigh prior to 1801 when Whitworth married Jane Pollard.
Samuel (senior) and Elizabeth are known to have had at least 8 other children but all of these were baptised in either Tuddenham or Cavenham, both villages in Suffolk between Mildenhall and Bury St Edmunds about 2 miles apart from each other. Whitworth and Samuel (c1779) do not appear to have been baptised in either of these villages nor in any other nearby village.
