CYRUS RACKHAM
The following was reported from Harwich Town Hall in the Essex Standard dated August 31st 1849. It is not known for certain whether it relates to Cyrus Rackham (1806-c1876) or to his son Cyrus Rackham (1832-1906). By 1851 the latter was a groom living in Hampstead so it seems more likely that the former, who was an agricultural labourer, was the subject of the report.
Cyrus Rackham, labourer, was charged with stealing a truss of meadow hay, the property of George Anthony Barnes, mail contractor; and after several witnesses had been examined the prisoner was committed for trial.
At the County Sessions on 16th October 1849, the defendant was tried for Larceny by Servant and found Not Guilty.
