In the 1881 Census, when they were living with their Curtis grandparents, the surname for the eldest three is shown as Curtis; whether this was a slip-up or deliberate we shall never know. William, the youngest, was born before the Census date but is not listed with the other three and their mother.

The baptism entry for Lilian Kate Norris shows her father as Frederick Thomas Norris but I believe this to be an error on the part of the clergy; her father is shown as Henry in the entry for her marriage.

Note that the wives of Charles and William were sisters.
