I have not managed to trace Mary in the 1841 or 1851 censuses with any certainty. Although Mary signed her name as Bassom in the marriage register there are relatively few baptisms with this spelling. I think the most likely is the baptism of Mary Basham on 22nd April 1810 (date of birth 18th February 1810) at St Mary Whitechapel (bearing in mind that her marriage was at Stepney). In this event, her parents would have been Edmund Basham and Mary Lussignea.
