SAMUEL MARTIN

Samuel Martin married Mary Bassom in 1829 at Stepney. The marriage entry indicated that Samuel was a widower. There are many marriages of a Samuel Martin in the preceding years so it is difficult to be sure which is the right one. The marriage of Samuel Martin to Armora Mullins (if I have read the name correctly - the handwriting is difficult to read) in 1825 at St Nicholas, Deptford is of particular interest because one of the witnesses was James Basseme who may have been related to Samuel's second wife Mary Bassom.

There are several baptisms of a Samuel Martin and none of them is obviously the 'right' one.

I haven't found an entry in the 1841 Census for Samuel or his wife but I have found an entry with Samuel (10), John (9) and Rachael (4) and the ages fit exactly with Samuel's children but they are living with a female Martin aged 25 whose first name is illegible but is probably Margaret. I presume she is an aunt, sister or cousin of Samuel senior but I haven't managed to make a connection.
