PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM

The photographs on this page have been copied from an album passed down from the Clout ancestors. It seems likely that the album was compiled in about 1905 but many of the photographs in it are certainly much older.

This photograph is one of the oldest in the album and was taken by a photographer in Brighton who was in business from 1866. It is the Chatfield ancestors who came from Brighton but Walter John Chatfield (c1831-1893) (whose daughter married William Henry Clout (1855-1911)) had moved to Clapham by 1864. It is thought that this could be a picture of his father Charles Chatfield (c1788-1867) taken not long before his death.

The lady on the left is believed to be Ellen Sarah Davis née Clout (c1859-1903). It was taken in Southsea where the family lived for a while. It is thought that they are her children on the right:
    Henry Victor Davis (1882- )
    Wilfred Sanger Davis (1890-1923)
    Emily Margaret Davis (c1885- )

This picture was also taken in Southsea although the album contains a picture of the two older children taken in Salisbury where they lived before Southsea.

These are thought to be the children of Ellen's sister Emma Annie Galloway née Clout (1856-1931):

     William Henry W Galloway (1878- )
     Sidney Galloway (1887- )
     Nellie Galloway (1880- )
     Norman Galloway(1883- )

The picture of Emma on a different page is also in the album.

This picture was taken in Leicester and is thought to be Richard William Clout (1853-1925) who married in Leicester in 1873 and probably remained there until he was widowed in 1910. He was a cousin of Ellen and Emma [and of their brother William Henry Clout (1855-1911)]

This picture was taken in Croydon (probably in 1904) and is thought to be the first three children of Joseph Pamment (1870-1947) and Florence Elizabeth Pamment née Meek (c1870-1945):

     Lily Frances Pamment (1894-1980)
     Florence Ethel Pamment (1892-1965)
     Joseph Pamment (1896-1970)
